The “Geelong RSL Pipes and Drums” was formed in July 2002 and is currently Geelong's only competing pipe band. The band was formed as a result of the demise of the Geelong Ladies Pipe Band due to dwindling membership, an unfortunate sign of the times!!!

The idea was then floated to form a new group aimed at being the premier pipe band in Geelong and would comprise of musicians from the Geelong Ladies Pipe Band and several other regional bands.

The “Geelong RSL Pipes and Drums” first entered the competition arena at Ballarat in February 2003.

As a new band we had to quickly establish our uniform to a high standard in order to “look the part” when competing. Also, as an investment for the future, we have purchased new snare, tenor and bass drums from Premier in England to replace our aging equipment.

We are currently looking for learner Pipers, Tenor Drummers and Snare Drummers.

We are very fortunate to have Brett Staley as our drum tutor who is also highly regarded in highland pipe band circles.

The tuition of our learner drummers is shared by our Drum Sergeant and our tutor as is required. Brett is also responsible for writing our drumming scores with emphasis being placed on our competition tunes.

Brett’s accolades include:

bulletDrum Sergeant of the Victoria Police Pipe Band
bulletMember of the Victoria Police Pipe Band when they won the 1998 World Championships.
bulletMember of the VHPBA Drumming Panel
bulletVHPBA Drumming Judge
